An Eaton County man was found not guilty despite photos of traumatic injuries and testimony from the treating physician. The jury returned a verdict in under 2 hours. "I was happy for the client," said trial attorney Karen Phillips. The client's daughter was the complaining witness. "We just stuck to our guns and argued our theory and that was that the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt could not be met with testimony that came from a complainant who admitted that she was not only intoxicated but had also taken over-the-counter sleeping pills and could not remember significant gaps of time," said Phillips. |
