A first of its kind training is coming to Detroit. The motor city will host a drug recognition training course for lawyers April 12-14. "Police officers are already being trained at an increasingly fast pace in this investigation technique," said ICBA criminal law section chair and DUI attorney Mike Nichols of East Lansing.
Nichols developed the idea in concert with other lawyers. They invited national expert Lance Platt, PhD to present the seminar in Michigan for attorneys. Nichols added: "my theory is based on my experience from getting certified by NHTSA in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. My skills increased exponentially. I hope to have the same experience by obtaining DRE training."
DRE stands for Drug Recognition Evaluator. Police officers, in particular Michigan State Troopers are getting trained in how to attempt to identify and build evidence that a driver is impaired by drugs in his system.
This amazing training will also feature an introduction to chromatography, which is the basic method used to identify and attempt to measure the concentration of alcohol or other drugs in human blood. Nationally known expert Josh Lee of Oklahoma will be the presenter.
Nichols joined with other attorneys to launch the Michigan Association of OWI Attorneys, which is hosting the event. There is time to register at http://warhorsemarketing.com. Follow the link to "training" and "DRE Detroit."
