East Lansing drunk driving attorney Mike Nichols was interviewed for the MLive.com report, interviewed on the radio about the report and is the DUI attorney who is leading the way in challenging the ability of the government to prosecute you for a crime that you can never expunge: drunk driving. Nichols is not surprised to now see a glut of lawyers using "search engine optimization" to advertise for potential clients in drunk driving cases in the East Lansing area. Nichols says "MLive.com says that East Lansing has an exponentially greater number of DUI arrests than any other city including Ann Arbor and one East Lansing police officer alone garnered more DUI arrests than the entire Ann Arbor PD so, no I'm not surprised so many lawyers are now "chasing the crowd.' Some of these lawyers even hire a vendor to write articles about drunk driving cases. We help make the law, follow the changes in the law and do our own research and writing because we want to lead the way in this area of the law."
Nichols says "the first thing you should ask a lawyer if you have a case in East Lansing or anywhere for that matter, is this: 'when was the last time you went to trial in a DUI case?' That should help separate the wheat from the chaff." Nichols also points out: "I even see lawyers from the Detroit area with landing pages explaining the system and judges in 54B District Court in East Lansing. The funny thing is that during the last jury selection for 54B, there were 2 lawyers going to trial on DUI cases: East Lansing DUI attorney Karen Phillips and me - and we are both with the same firm. Ask your potential lawyer which judge handled jury selections on Tuesday September 11, 2012 for example and see if he or she knows."
