Lansing Drunk Driving Attorney Wendy Schiller-Nichols Gets Judge to “Just Say No” to Probation: Client convicted with a second OWI is sentenced to weekend class and fines/costs!
A young man was on probation in suburban Detroit for Operating a boat while intoxicated when he was charged in Lansing with operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI). He immediately called the Lansing drunk driving attorneys at the Nichols Law Firm. Wendy Schiller-Nichols advised him strongly to begin random testing, AA and counseling. He took Wendy Schiller-Nichols’ advice. At the end of the case, Schiller Nichols was able to tell his story. A District Court Judge in Lansing sentenced this young man from the Detroit-area to a weekend class and fines/costs.
This was a successful outcome for the client, who left a “gentleman’s club” in Lansing with a group of his buddies and was pulled over with a very high breath alcohol content. Schiller-Nichols says “fortunately, the operating while intoxicated by boat is the prior so it will not cause him to have his license revoked for 1 year. Further, we educated the client and the court on the reason why probation in Lansing was not the best use of resources.”
With summer coming, more people will be out in their boats. Police will be targeting boaters to enforce the crime of operating a vessel (boat) while intoxicated in Michigan. It is charged under the Michigan Natural Resources Code, not the Michigan Vehicle Code. The lawyers at the Nichols Law firm know and understand the differences.
