Arrested or Ticketed for a Misdemanor at MSU Oregon game? Tips from a Leading Law Firm in East Lansing

By Michael Nichols
Categories: Michael J. Nichols

If you were arrested or issued an "appearance ticket" by the MSU PD; East Lansing PD or any other department working the tailgate lots for the MSU Oregon game, you will have to answer the charge at the 54B District Court in East Lansing. The Court is close to downtown East Lansing and the MSU campus at 101 Linden. It is literally 2 blocks away from the Abbott Entrance of MSU.

East Lansing attorney Mike Nichols says: "you will at least be treated with respect by a staff with experience and professionalism." The 2 East Lansing judges are Judge Andrea Andrews Larkin and Richard D Ball. Judge Larkin's Court Officer is Stephanie and her Assistant and Court Recorder is Katelyn. Judge Ball's Court Officer is Steve and his Assistant and Court Recorder is Ann.

You will not necessarily have to appear in person for an arraignment or a live initial court appearance. The court requires in person arraignments for minor in possession and OWI charges. The reason is so that the court can impose a testing requirement to verify alcohol abstinence. However, there may be limited exceptions to the requirements. You can find out more about these exceptions by speaking with us at 517.432.9000.

Nichols, a Meridian Township resident and a lawyer in East Lansing for over 16 years says "always question the reason the police officer stopped you initially and whether that stop turned into an unlawful detention without additional facts to support probable cause." Nichols has has a very successful record and has a case on appeal from East Lansing on the existence of coerced consent as well as a stay on another case on the issue of whether the "look of intoxication" is enough for an East Lansing police officer to make a traffic stop on a driver leaving the Dublin Square Pub based on reasonable articulable suspicion of the crime of OWI.
