Distracted driving, auto accidents and you; do you know your rights?

By Michael Nichols
Categories: Wendy M. Schiller-Nichols, Wrongful Death, Mathew J. Heos

Michigan motorists are presented with any number of hazards on any given drive. Whether that means potholes, (and there are a lot of potholes), pedestrians, bicyclists or motorcyclists, Michigan motorists must be vigilant at all times.

The legislature is currently reviewing the law on distracted driving, especially the act of even holding a cell phone. Why? Because drivers are not always paying attention and it is happening more and more - even though when you see a car coming at you in the opposite lane you expect that driver to be paying attention?

What happens when they are not paying attention? If you are injured because someone was texting and driving, distracted or intoxicated, what are your rights? Accident investigations can proceed slowly and some injured people may find themselves searching for answers. Who will pay for the medical bills? What will happen to my finances if I am unable to work work? How will we provide for the children? What do we do now?

Michigan no-fault law is complex and insurance companies are relentless. It's important to get the right counsel from the right firm. The Nichols law firm has a combined experience of over 75 years (James Heos - 50+; Wendy Schiller-Nichols - 19+; Matt Heos -7+ years) litigating automobile accident cases.
