What’s New in Michigan Family Law? A new Parent Time Protocol for Michigan Judges and Friends of the Court

By Michael Nichols
Categories: Wendy M. Schiller-Nichols, Family Law

It was just over 20 years ago that the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) helped the Michigan Supreme Court develop parenting time guidelines.  The guidelines are not the law but they are informative for judges, lawyers and parents on what can be considered in fashioning a schedule for divorcing parents, or parents going through a divorce.

Michigan divorce attorney Wendy M. Schiller-Nichols says “these guidelines are not the law but this manual is helpful for parents to understand what some court investigators will consider and the reasons for certain recommendations.”

The guidelines also contain sample parenting schedules and calendars for parents to use – a helpful pdf is here: https://courts.michigan.gov/administration/scao/resources/documents/publications/manuals/focb/pt_gdlns.pdf
