The Nichols Law Firm's effort to exonorate a client ended successfully after an extremely long and unbelievable fight. The client was charged last summer with minor in possession and transporting alcohol by a minor but a district judge in Mason, Michigan dismissed the case. "The judge ruled that the City of Williamston did not have the authority to prosecute these charges and that the officer who investigated acted improperly in searching the client's vehicle," said one of the attorneys, Mike Nichols.

The police, frustrated at losing their prey, did not stop there.

The client was then charged a second time by the Ingham County Prosecutor when the city police officer issued a new ticket to the client and simply submitted it to the district court and indicated that he was charging under the state law, instead of the Williamston city ordinance. "On top of all that, the client was issued a baseless charge by the City of Williamston for allegedly disturbing the peace while all this was going on," said Nichols.

Attorney Fred Bell won a full acquittal for the client by a jury of the disturbing the peace allegation. The NLF then filed a new motion on the older charges and, following a hearing, cooler heads prevailed. The NLF legal team managed to convince the state prosecutors to dismiss the criminal charges in favor of civil infractions that amount to nothing more than traffic tickets without points being assessed on the client's license.
