Carry and Conceal

Michigan's carry and conceal laws changed drastically over the last several years. You are not prohibited from carrying most guns so long as you have a concealed weapons permit. The local gun board in your community is required to issue you a concealed weapons permit unless you are disqualified for a valid reason under the law as interpreted by the gun board. You are prohibited from carrying knives that are too big (blades 4 inches long or longer) and other types of weapons that are specified under state law. You can also carry weapons that are necessary for personal protection, such as pepper spray. It must be sold in a container of a certain size and you may not use it unless it is for self-defense purposes.
