ANOTHER NOT GUILTY VERDICT FOR MICHIGAN CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY MIKE NICHOLS

Mike Nichols of East Lansing stood by and fought for a young Muslim-Arab-American who was facing a serious criminal charge in a small Northern Michigan community recently. The result: not guilty in 12 minutes of jury deliberations. Nichols said: “my biggest concern was juror bias against the young man, especially after they heard the complaining witness claim all these horrible things about him. However, with some effective voir dire and keeping my ears and eyes open when the jurors responded during jury selection we got a fair trial.”

The charge arose from an alleged assault near Atlanta Michigan in Montmorency county. The case was tried in the 88-2 Judicial District Court before Judge Theordore Johnson. Nichols praised the judge for his demeanor and ensuring that the trial proceeded smoothly and fairly. Nichols added “it was tough to get there with a snow and rain storm that closed many of the local schools. Fortunately, I left well in advance of the start of trial to have plenty of time to get there. The preparation we put into this case and the grasp of the facts made all the difference.”
