Two states have just legalized marijuana, including the State of Washington – where voters passed a law making marijuana legal even for recreational purposes. However, marijuana users in Michigan are still fighting for fair treatment 4 years after the legalization of medical marijuana. “The fact that legally, you are not allowed to operate a vehicle with ‘any amount’ of marijuana in your system regardless of whether you are impaired, tells me that our criminal justice system remains in the dark ages,” says Michigan medical marijuana attorney Mike Nichols.
Recently, National Public Radio uncovered another irony: the fact that insurance companies will not provide coverage for medical marijuana use – even when it is the most effective medicine. A link to the story is below.
Nichols, who practices exclusively in defending those accused of driving while impaired by alcohol, marjuana or other drugs, is raising questions about the ability of the Michigan State Police to “measure nothing.” Nichols has multiple challenges pending around the state.
