On April 30, 2012, deputies for the Ingham County Sheriff’s department discovered 2.5 pounds of marijuana during a routine traffic stop. The deputies also discovered brownies and muffins that allegedly contain marijuana. Food combined with marijuana is commonly referred to as medibles (edible medicine) when the combination is used to treat one of the qualifying conditions under the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act (MMMA). “Medibles are often preferred by medical marihuana patients because they experience longer periods of pain relief then had they smoked marihuana. Medibles also help the patient avoid the health risks associated with smoking” says attorney Joshua M. Covert of the Nichols Law Firm.
