DID POLICE VALIDLY ARREST A COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYER ACCUSED OF DRUNK DRIVING AND NOW SUSPENDED FROM HIS TEAM?

By Michael Nichols
Categories: Drunk-Driving

Michigan drunk driving-drugged driving attorney Mike Nichols hopes that former MSU football coach John L. Smith did not jump too soon in suspending his star linebacker after an arrest for drunk driving that was based on a warrantless stop. “From what little I know so far, the basis for the traffic stop may merit further investigation,” says Nichols. Nichols is the author of the OWI Handbook for Michigan lawyers by West Publishing and dedicates his practice to defending those charged with drugged and drunk driving – especially when the allegations are based on potential 4th Amendment violations and scientific evidence that is not reliable.

“The police stopped this young man when he crossed the center line. One minor drift over the center line does not necessarily support a warrantless traffic stop.” The player was suspended indefinitely on Sunday.
