Michigan drunk driving attorney Mike Nichols digs for information - and when he gets it -- he scrutinizes it carefully. "We noticed something when the staff and I obtained documents for the new DMT breath test instrument in use at the Meridian Township Police Department," Nichols says.
The DMT breath test instrument is the new device that analyzes the energy change in the last 10 cubic centimeters of a breath sample. It looks for a .10 grams per 210 liters concentration of a sample of the stretching action of the carbon-hydrogen molecule. The difference between the amount that the infrared light beam within the instrument sees versus the .10/210 "setting" is how it calculates the so-called alcohol concentration.
"We know that the Meridian Township Police Department makes a lot of arrests for DUI," says Nichols. "What many people don't know is what may be going on behind the scenes to try to give the public a false sense of confidence in the evidence gathering unit at the MTPD."
