NEW TEXTING WHILE DRIVING BAN GIVES POLICE MORE LEEWAY TO START MICHIGAN DRUNK DRIVING INVESTIGATIONS

By Michael Nichols

A ban on texting while driving takes effect in Michigan July 1st. Governor Jennifer Granholm signed the bill last week in a high-profile bill signing ceremony on the Oprah Winfrey show.  The ban allows police officers to stop a driver who is texting or e-mailing. "This law is as dangerous as the activity that it prohibits," said attorney Mike Nichols. The law gives police new reasons to initiate a traffic stop and begin an investigation. This could lead to hundreds or even thousands of new drunk driving arrests of innocent citizens. We intend to dissect the law and we will post the full text here and at www.accussedbutnotguilty.com
