Michigan Attorney Mike Nichols Speaks on Statewide Radio about Operating Under the Influence of Drugs

By Michael Nichols
Categories: Michael J. Nichols, OWI

Lansing Attorney Mike Nichols is helping hundreds of thousands of Michigan radio listeners understand the evolving laws about operating under the influence of drugs. "I recently did a 2-part broadcast with Rob Baykian of the Michigan Radio Network for his show 'Capitol Pressroom,'" Nichols says. Baykian's public affairs program is one of the most popular radio shows on Michigan talk radio.

Nichols is a former broadcast journalist, who learned the craft of radio broadcasting from Baykian from 1988-1994 while at the Michigan News Network. "This was a fascinating interview because I walked into the studios and went back in time," says Nichols. He adds:  "It was also an interview during which Rob got me to answer some questions with my guard down and that is the hallmark of a good interview - I am almost nervous about listening back to it."

The first subject was on Michigan's changing laws on operating under the influence of alcohol. The second part was on operating under the influence of drugs - including a discussion of the new KOON decision that immunizes medical marijuana patients from prosecution for driving while internally possessing their medication.

Nichols lives in Meridian Township with his wife and law partner Wendy Schiller-Nichols and their 3 children. Mike Nichols' main office is in East Lansing, within 2 miles of the 54B District Courthouse. Nichols has practiced criminal defense in Lansing and Ingham County for his entire 14 year career as a lawyer. He is an adjunct professor of forensic evidence in criminal law and DUI Law and Practice at Cooley Law School in Lansing. He is the author of the West Practice Guide for Michigan lawyers in drunk driving and also authored several chapters on blood alcohol testing. The interviews will be broadcast statewide on Michigan Radio Network Affiliates carrying "capitol pressroom," which can be found here: http://www.michiganradionetwork.com/
