Michigan Criminal Defense Lawyer and Leader Mike Nichols Presents at Metrology Conference for National College for DUI Defense

Criminal Defense Attorney Mike Nichols, a leader in forensic evidence in the United States, delivered a presentation at the National College for DUI Defense Metrology Conference. Nichols presented on "how reliable are breath and blood alcohol tests?"

Nichols flew to Phoenix from his home in East Lansing on November 15th and returned the same day. He was tired but exhilarated at the same time: "we had to alter plans so that I could join in the motion to admit our new lawyer - Bill Livingston - to the practice of law" Nichols said. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to assist in the presentation by a leading expert in the field of metrology at the conference; it was a long weekend but I could not be happier to do both. Conference founder Ted Vosk said that Nichols was part of his "dream team." Vosk is an internationally recognized expert in forensic science and helped Nichols win multiple challenges on uncertainty in breath and blood analysis.

Nichols says that one thing he learned is that it is an ongoing effort to educate judges and juries on the factors of uncertainty and traceabilty - which are the necessary pillars of a reliable breath or blood alcohol test. Nichols co-presented with an expert with whom he successfully convinced at least 3 judges to exclude breath and blood tests because they lacked traceablity and uncertainty. Nichols is an author, adjunct professor and trial attorney.
