Nichols Law Firm Attorney Josh Covert worked tirelessly for medical marijuana patients and their rights at the annual hash bash on April 4th in Ann Arbor. Covert has become a leading lawyer in marijuana litigation and patients' rights in Michigan. He observed: "there was a large turnout for this year's rally; I think in large part to the momentum and excitement in the cannabis community for the 2016 legalization efforts."
Among the speakers were Mayor Virg Bernero of Lansing. He spoke about the city's relaxed enforcement efforts of existing marijuana laws. Covert was impressed with the serious tone of the crowd: "they listened intently to Mayor Bernero."
One ballot proposal to legalize marijuana was launched already. The Michigan Cannabis Coalition filed petition signatures with the State Board of Canvassers. This body is 2 democrats and 2 republicans, who have the task of scrutinizing the language for clarity and scrutinizing the signatures for compliance with Michigan election law. If the language and the signatures qualify then the matter will be placed on the ballot for a statewide vote.
