East Lansing Police report to local media outlets that there were a few fires and arrests after thousands of people celebrated in the Cedar Village area off-campus following the Michigan State football team's BIG Championship win over Iowa early December 6th, 2015. ELPD tells the Associated Press that there were 8 arrests. East Lansing attorney and MSU alum Mike Nichols says "my sources tell me that there were no major incidents or injuries."
If any of those arrests are for the East Lansing Ordinance that prohibits "inciting a riot" then the citizens charged face a ban from the MSU campus following sentencing IF there is a conviction for that charge. Nichols, who lived in the Cedar Village area as a student in the late 80's, was part of a team of lawyers who are working on a case to overturn the ordinance as unconstitutional. Nichols says "the matter remains under advisement - meaning the circuit court judge who heard the appeal is still thinking about it."
