The Year of Chris Wickman

By Michael Nichols
Categories: OWI

It was a supremely eventful and successful year for Chris Wickman. Chris started at the Nichols Law Firm the week after Labor Day, 2018. Since then, Chris has been really rocking it. “We are so privileged to have Chris Wickman on our team,” says NLF co-founder Mike Nichols. Mr. Wickman is a graduate of Temple University Law School and Michigan State University undergraduate school. Mr. Wickman has had many accomplishments throughout the year.

For starters, Mr. Wickman was elected to the Ingham County Bar Association Board of Directors (ICBA BOD). He also joined the National College for DUI Defense (NCDD) and graduated from the 2019 Summer Session. Mr. Wickman also completed another year of service as chair of the ICBA Criminal Defense Section.

Mr. Wickman was also invited to speak at the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan (CDAM) fall conference on mitigation at sentencing.

Some of Mr. Wickman’s cases and results this year include defending a young man charged (over-charged) with a terrorism crime for a so-called prank on the internet regarding killing the Michigan State University President, Samuel Stanley.

This year, Mr. Wickman also accomplished:

• Shaving 11 months off a prison sentence on appeal and resentencing.
• Turning an Operating While Intoxicated (OWI: .15/.16) and Open Intoxicants Charge into a Careless Driving (on conditional dismissal) and HYTA misdemeanor. This means the criminal charges were subject to suppression, even though OWI charges are never subject to expungement.
• Turning an OWI (.11/.12) into a careless and another civil infraction.

“On Chris Wickman’s very first day with our firm, he helped me with a trial in Eaton County Circuit Court and did a fantastic job,” Nichols says. He adds: “he is a great lawyer who cares and who works hard, 2 of the biggest tools in the toolbet of what makes someone a great lawyer.”

Mr. Wickman can be reached at cwickman@nicholslaw.net or at 517.432.9000 where you can find out what it means to be committed to results.
