The new "superdrunk" law is now in effect. A person convicted with a breath/blood alcohol content of .17 grams per 210 liters of breath/100 mililiters of blood is now subject to greater penalties. "It creates a new category of penalties," said Michigan-OWI-DUI-OUIL expert Mike Nichols. Nichols added "the superdrunk statute means that anyone convicted faces up to 6 months in jail, mandatory rehabilitation and the use of what's called a 'breath alcohol interlock device.'" You can find more about the Superdrunk statute elsewhere on this webpage and in the 2010-2011 OWI Handbook from West Publishing, authored by Mike Nichols. |
