The Nichols Law Firm has sued a local county government in Michigan for violating the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The basis of the lawsuit is the fact that the sheriff department refused to respond properly to a request from the Nichols Law Firm under the Act. "A public body has an obligation that is very well defined under Michigan law," said attorney Mike Nichols. The Nichols Law Firm is represented by the Abood-Law-Firm in Lansing, Michigan.
The Nichols Law Firm has also filed suit on behalf of the Abood Law Firm aganst a local police department under the FOIA. Nichols said: "It seems like a pattern is developing among government representatives of torturing the public's right to know. Michigan has a long tradition of transparent government and the FOIA is all about protecting the rights of the people to know what their elected officials and publicly-paid employees are doing." The Nichols Law Firm is representing the Abood Law Firm in the case. Watch the NLF website for additional details and developments in both cases.
Neither defendant has been served with the individual lawsuits so their identities will not be disclosed until they are served. |
