By Michael Nichols
Michigan-OWI-OUIL-DUI expert Mike Nichols recently obtained the dismissal of East-Lansing-OWI-DUI charges against a client in exchange for 2 non-criminal traffic tickets. “When it comes to getting the result that you need in a case,” Nichols said “a big part of it is putting yourself in the position. I am a firm believer that you absolutely must start preparing for trial from day one. There is no substitute for preparation and making sure that the other side knows that you are not just willing to go to trial, but prepared to present your defense.”
Mike Nichols-is-an-East-Lansing-based-OWI-DUI-OUIL-attorney, adjunct law professor and author of the West-OWI-Handbook for Michigan lawyers. He says: “you are not necessarily going to find that you can negotiate out of a criminal charge in every case. However, where you have the right set of facts and circumstances you can get that brass ring when you prepare for trial and hang in there. I try to make sure each and every client understands the good facts and bad facts and is comfortable going to trial if appropriate. When you have that mindset of determination to win at trial unless you get the negotiated result that you need or desire, it makes you much more powerful as a litigant in a case.”
Mike-Nichols is a graduate of Michigan State University and has been practicing law for 12 years, all of them in Lansing and specializing in complex criminal litigation.
