On Thursday, March 6th, The Nichols Law Firm celebrated the accomplishment of Of Counsel attorney Colline Cheltenham. Ms. Cheltenham was honored with a “Top 5 Under 35” award by the Ingham County Bar Association.
This award recognizes attorneys who are under 35 years old, who are nominated by their peers and have demonstrated skills, ability and dedication. “The ‘Top 5 Under 35’ is no small accomplishment. We are very proud of Colline for receiving this well-deserved recognition,” says Wendy M Schiller-Nichols, founder and president of the firm.
Ms. Cheltenham is no ordinary attorney. She grew up in rural Gladwin, Michigan. She made her way through school with a business degree at Northwood, all while holding down a job and a family. Ms. Cheltenham raised her oldest daughter and then had a son over a decade later. Her second child did not stop her from her dream of law school. Ms.Cheltenham went to the night program for working adults at the Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Ms. Cheltenham, in 7 years as a lawyer, has worked for the state of Michigan, a private law firm practicing family and employment law and worked on her own before she was approached to merge her practice with the Nichols Law Firm. She continues to focus on Family Law as well as driver license restoration, and any select litigation matters.
Ms. Cheltenham says that practicing family law is a unique opportunity: “I like having the chance to get a good result for the underdog. I try to dedicate myself to father’s rights and helping good dads get equal parenting time. The current version of the Child Custody Act really tips the playing field in a way that makes it tough for dads to get equal physical custody.”
Ms. Cheltenham lives in East Lansing with her husband, Mike and their kids. She can be reached at 517 432 9000 or at cdburd@nicholslaw.net
